Stony Brook students came together on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Campus Recreation Center to raise money for charity at the second annual Dodgeball Challenge.
Sponsored by MALIK Fraternity, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. and Weekend Life Council, teams of 6-8 competed for a grand prize of $500, half of which went to the winning team’s charity of choice.
“Fat People are Harder to Kidnap” won the tournament beating “Insane Clown Posse” in the finals. “Ugly Slutty Grandmas” came in third.
The games were played downstairs in the Rec. Center on a coned-off section of the MAC courts. The teams were co-ed, consisting of a minimum of two females.
T-shirts were given out to the participants sporting the popular Dodgeball quote, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”
Oscar Icochea, who participated in the tournament, explained that since the tournament was for charity he didn’t think it would be so intense.
“It was great to play dodgeball for the first time in a long time,” he said. “But I didn’t expect it to get so competitive.”
All the students who participated competed hard for the grand prize.
“I’ll need some practice but yes I definitely want to come back for next year,” said Icochea.
