A male riding a bicycle was hit and pinned under a white Chevrolet SUV outside of Yang Hall on Roosevelt Dr. between 3:30 pm and 3:45 pm. The victim has been transported to the Stony Brook Emergency Room by SBVAC. The condition of the student is unknown at this time.
The injured biker, Rob Capuano, a senior, has provided The Press with the following personal statement:
I was struck by and pinned under an SUV on Roosevelt drive while I was riding my bicycle coming from the bike path on Circle Rd. I was then dragged under the vehicle for maybe 15 feet or so. I fractured my pelvis in a few places, and broke my L4 vertebrae I thought my leg was broken but my knee was dislocated instead. This caused me to tear multiple ligaments in my knee causing extreme pain. My whole body is in a lot of pain and the hospital has had me on a steady stream of percocet and morphine every few hours. This is the current extent of my injuries and I’ll be in the hospital for a few more days to be monitored and have more tests and procedures done. In a week or two I’ll undergo surgeries to repair the ligaments in my knee.
