UPDATE: The event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, February 9th. Same time, same place, and the same tickets are needed for admittance.
Earlier: The USG has released a statement elaborating on why tonight’s event was postponed.
“Due to circumstances with the upcoming storm, Aziz needed to leave a day early for his commitment to his TV show Parks and Recreation. He really wanted to be at Stony Brook tonight, but unfortunately, would have risked missing this time sensitive obligation to his TV show. The good news is that Aziz will be rescheduling his Stony Brook appearance for a date in the VERY near future and that date will be announced very shortly.”
We’ll have updates on when a rescheduled date is set.
Earlier: USG announced via Facebook that Aziz Ansari’s highly anticipated show on Tuesday night had been postponed due to concerns over the weather. They released this statement via Facebook.
“Tuesday: Snow before noon, then freezing rain and sleet between noon and 3pm, then freezing rain after 3pm. Total accumulations of 1/4″ to 1/2″ of ice are possible. We deeply regret to announce that the show has been postponed, but it will be rescheduled as soon as possible. The Staller Center is graciously working with their schedule …to accommodated this change. Look for updates in the morning. Do not throw away your tickets, they will remain valid.”
“We did not have a choice in this matter,” USG explained after their initial statement, placing the blame instead on Ansari’s camp. Prior to the announcement, rumors were circulating that rather than making himself available to field questions from student media, Ansari would leave immediately after his performance due to the anticipation of icy weather.
The event, which has 1,688 confirmed guests on Facebook but only 950 seats available, drew huge lines at the SAC Ticket Office yesterday where free tickets were handed out on a first come, first served basis. Some students have even been using the event page on Facebook to buy and sell tickets.
