Every summer has a song. Recent summers heard these on the radio all the freaking time: Party Rock Anthem (2011), Call Me Maybe (2012) and for better or worse; Blurred Lines (2013). But where, oh where is this summer’s song? Happy by Pharrell was release pre-summer season, to get us out of that unhappy winter funk. Fancy by Iggy Azalea? Eh, maybe. It has been overplayed enough (if you didn’t know how to spell her name it’s I-G-G-Y or I-D-G-F, but that’s a personal preference) and everyone knows what’s coming when that first electronic beat drops.
However, it doesn’t feel epic. No one is feeling that euphoric “yeah I can totally dance/sing/hang outside the car window like a dog” when “Fancy” or “Rude” by MAGIC! plays. Where is the song of summer? Will the beat ever drop?
