It’s been 25 years since Saved by the Bell first aired on NBC, and its cheesy lines and acting are still iconic. For those who have no idea what Saved by the Bell is 1. I am so sorry your childhood missed this neon spectacle, 2. you’ve been missing out and 3. here’s a quick overview: Saved By the Bell revolves around teen heartthrob, Zack Morris, Palisade Highschool’s playboy and school prankster, who speaks directly to the camera, and his friends as they navigate the waters of teenage-dom in some beachy town in Southern California. The gang includes A.C. Slater, the frenemy; Samuel “Screech” Powers, the nerd who means well; Kelly Kapowski, the cheerleader; Jessie Spano, the know-it-all brainiac and Lisa Morris, the gossip queen and fashionista. Of course there were other characters floating around, but it was always about the gang.
As cheesy as the show is, the writers always made a point to round out each episode with some sort of lesson or moral that teenagers actually deal with: divorce, drugs, death, body image issues and other more serious social issues. Saved by the Bell is timeless because of the way it handles real-life issues without ruining it’s comedic nature.
