The 2011-2012 season at the Staller Center for the Arts opens Saturday, October 15 with “Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger,” Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
The Staller Center has a packed season lined up, with many musical guests in particular, including multiple performances by the Emerson String Quartet.
Non-musical features include comedian Sinbad, whom may be familiar from ‘90s TV shows “A Different World” or “The Sinbad Show.” Also, the Squirm Burpee Circus will hit the main stage in an installment of the performances labelled Not Just for Kids.
Fall 2011 will end with “A Leahy Family Christmas,” a conglomerate of 8 siblings performing Celtic infused Christmas hymns.
January kicks off with a Renaissance Jazz production featuring Chucho Valdes and the Afro-Cuban Messengers. This will be followed in early February by the dance company Pilobolus and another performance by the Emerson String Quartet, who will perform again in March, as well.
It will be a dance heavy spring with performances like “Moulin Rouge the Ballet” and “Burn the Floor,” a Broadway show full of ballroom dancing.
There are 3 shows in the spring declaring they are Not Just for Kids: Stand Up 8, a circus performance, “Imaginocean”, a glow-in-the-dark musical, and “Magic of Lyn,” the final show of the season.
