Today Borders announced it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after several failed attempts to turn around the company’s financial fortunes. The national bookseller had been hemorrhaging profits for months, as more and more consumers flock to eBooks and online retailers.
The filing also calls for the closure of over 200 retail stores across the country, including several in New York. Two Long Island stores, in Westbury and Commack, will be closed by April, but the location in Stony Brook on Route 347 has been spared for now.
The Stony Brook location will be the only Borders left on the north shore of Long Island. See the whole list of store closures here. (PDF)
