On the evening of Sunday, November 22nd, some of America’s brightest stars in music shined bright for all to see. The lovely host, Jennifer Lopez, performed an opening montage that included her own “Waiting For Tonight,” Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” Beyoncé’s “Feeling Myself” and Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money.”

Selena Gomez was shining, quite literally, as she performed her hit single “Same Old Love” in a shimmery sheer black outfit surrounded by a group of fit, scantily clad tuxedoed dancers. Take that Bieber!

All eyes were on the young ladies like Ariana Grande, whose new single “Focus,” was a huge hit for the crowd after she performed it live. She was a vision in white, though there was not a whole lot of white to see as Grande was showing a lot of leg. As usual, she deftly jumped around the stage in white stiletto heels.

Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weekend, impressed the crowd with a fiery (literally) performance of his hit song, “The Hills.” Tesfaye had also just been awarded the American Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album for Beauty Behind the Madness.

Carrie Underwood came on stage donning a beautiful red ball gown to sing her latest hit“Heartbeat” and gave a heartfelt thank you to her beloved husband and son.

Coldplay appeared on the AMA stage for the first time in seven years to perform a high-energy version of “Adventure of a Lifetime.”

No one could forget Celine Dion’s beautiful tribute to the city of Paris as she performed “Hymne a L’Amour,” a song made famous by French artist Edith Piaf, with a haunting montage of famous Paris landmarks and scenes from the aftermath of the terrorist attack playing on the large screens behind her.

Alanis Morissette made an appearance, performing the iconic song “You Oughta Know” from 1995 along with an unexpected guest: Demi Lovato.

Justin Bieber was reserved for the show’s finale, where he performed an acoustic version of “What Do You Mean,” a dance move filled “Where Are U Now,” and a crowd favorite “Sorry,” which he sang while getting soaked by a rain machine, which some say resembled his tears for his long lost Selena.
