Many viewers of the Queen’s parade-like funeral may have missed that her coffin was actually lined with lead, and speculated to have weighed anywhere between 500 and 600 pounds. This curious detail is even more intriguing when considering recent reported tectonic activity emanating from Buckingham Palace in the weeks following the funeral.
With the whole crowd belting the last verse of “Moon Song,” both the arising anticipation and the cathartic climax made me feel at home. Watching her perform it live transformed the song from a slow-paced, skippable track to a go-to nightly car ride tune — one that deserves a deep sea dive.
Growing up in the city, Jessica Chan never really feared taking public transportation. During school breaks, she used to ride the subway alone and commute two hours a day from downtown Brooklyn to the Upper East Side to get to her job. “Yet, as an American of Chinese descent, I now worry for my life and the lives of those who look like me,” she said.
“Sometimes it feels like events at Stony Brook are forced, but this did not feel that way at all,” rising senior Clare Dana said. “The Bash felt like the most student-led event I’ve been to; it felt like the people who put it together really cared about it and I think that’s what made it so successful.”
The first lionfish reported in the Atlantic was found in Florida in 1985, and the species was documented as “established” in the early 2000s. Since then, it has spread south, crossing the entire Caribbean and arriving at the Brazilian coast in a region near the mouth of the Amazon River.
