Long Island is known for its bagels, so what really is it that makes them so special? Follow host Jessica Coacci as she visits some of the best bagel shops on Long Island and investigates the mystery of a good LI bagel.
Greenpoint, Brooklyn has been known as Little Poland for its distinct culture brought by the large Polish immigrant population in the 1980s. More recently, much of the Polish crowd has been disappearing from Greenpoint as the town is undergoing gentrification. This change is bringing challenges to the community as it struggles to sustain its character. Our host Falah Jalali visited Christina’s, a local Polish restaurant, where she tried pierogies, a classic comfort food, and talked about how the town has changed over time.
I’m writing this because as much as I would never want this to happen to anyone, we live in a cruel and evil world — and if it should happen to anyone, they shouldn’t feel alone. They should take some hope for the future; and for those who have the privilege of never experiencing this type of degradation, you take with you some empathy.
