Kylie and Taryn Ohlmiller are experiencing a dream. Both are currently  playing for one of the top women’s lacrosse teams in America. For the sisters, getting to experience that dream together makes it even more surreal. Kylie, a 20-year-old junior, joined the Seawolves in 2015 and made an immediate splash. Throughout her career, she has put up 232 points in just 49 games to date. She had the help of teammates like Courtney Murphy and Dorrien Van Dyke on offense for her first two seasons. Now, she has them and her younger sister. “I was very excited when Taryn decided she wanted to come join me here at Stony Brook,” Kylie Ohlmiller said. “We’ve always been very close so I had no problem at all sharing my college experience with her.” Taryn said that in the spring of her junior year of high school, when she decided to commit to Stony…

Kylie Ohlmiller led Stony Brook (2-0) to a statement win over the Bryant Bulldogs (0-1) in the Seawolves home opener on Saturday afternoon. Ohlmiller, the junior attacker, achieved a career-high of seven goals and five assists which helped factor into more than half of Stony Brook’s offensive explosion in a 20-5 victory. The victory helped erase a somewhat sour taste in the Seawolves’ mouths that they experienced two weeks ago against Towson. The team earned a 10-9 victory in a gritty performance, but had expected to win in a more dominant fashion. That wasn’t an issue against Bryant. “We decided as a team to put Towson behind us,”  Ohlmiller said. “Yes, we got the win which was big, but we tried to put it behind us and focus on today. We focused on coming out the way we know how to come out and that’s hard, aggressive and playing fast.”…

Stony Brook University Seawolves (15-3) junior attacker Courtney Murphy leapt into multiple record books with the team’s win over the University of New Hampshire Wildcats (6-11) in the America East semifinals on Friday. Murphy’s six goals against New Hampshire puts her at 91 on the season, surpassing former midfielder Demmianne Cook’s Stony Brook season record of 90. “It’s rewarding to be able to do all that, but I wouldn’t be able to do that without my teammates, so I have them to thank for it,” Murphy said. Her six goals and two assists also established her as Stony Brook’s all-time points leader, surpassing Kaitlin Leggio’s 246 career points. “I think [Murphy’s] phenomenal,” Stony Brook Head Coach Joe Spallina said. “I couldn’t be happier for her. She’s a big-time player and a big-time person.” Stony Brook crushed New Hampshire 17-4, winning  its 13th game in a row. The Seawolves stormed out…

Ask a student at Stony Brook what sports they think about when it comes to their school’s teams. Odds are they’ll either say men’s football, basketball or both. After all, those are the two most popular NCAA sports. But over the past couple of seasons, neither team has lived up to its full potential.  The Seawolves football squad is 10-13 over the past two years.  The basketball team has posted a solid 20-10 record so far this season, but their hopes of entering the March Madness competition fell short after losing the AEC Championship game to Albany. There are some pretty underrated teams here at the university that students haven’t paid much attention to. The men’s baseball team is one. While they have a mediocre 10-11 record to start the season, it’s important to keep in mind that they have a solid 7-4 record at home at Joe Nathan Field.…
