“Game of Thrones” came back this year with a ton of hype driven by the main conflicts between Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, once again plunging the continent of Westeros into a full-scale war for the Iron Throne. Whereas large-scale warfare in the show’s past has been mostly covered off-screen, this was going to be a season where we would see the few remaining characters go head to head on-screen. While the show has always been smart and well-managed by its creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the loss of screenwriter and creator of the GOT universe, George R.R. Martin seemed relatively more noticeable this season. As always, the sets, costumes, and performances were all spot on. We even received one of the best battle scenes in the show’s entire run in “The Spoils of War” when Daenerys confronts Jaime Lannister. This season wasn’t bad by any means;…

“The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is a masterful blend of old and new mechanics. Sticking to the roots of what makes a traditional “Legend of Zelda” game great. “Breath of the Wild” simultaneously mixes in modern open-world mechanics to concoct something that can arguably be considered one of the best video games ever made, and easily the best game paired with a console at launch. “Zelda’s” blend of fantasy and East Asian culture works great for this game’s world. The game has excellent cel-shaded art. Iconic locations like Zora’s Domain and Kakariko Village are amplified by the game’s incredible scale and beauty. These places are also homes to some of the game’s cast of characters, all of which I really enjoyed. The music of “Breath of the Wild” is very good and one of the more memorable “Zelda” soundtracks in recent memory. It’s definitely not my favorite in…

“Resident Evil 7” is filled to the brim with character. Character that has been missing from “Resident Evil” since Capcom tried moving the series to a more action-orientated experience as opposed to one that’s seeded in the series’s survival horror roots. It’s a “Resident Evil” game for fans and also for those looking to try the series out for the first time. Walking through the claustrophobic hallways of the Baker plantation, the setting brought back the same string of emotions I felt when I first walked through the iconic Spencer Mansion from the original title. “Resident Evil 7” begins with a new protagonist, Ethan Winters. Ethan receives an email from his missing wife Mia, who warns him not to come looking for her after she had been missing for three years. Of course Ethan disregards this warning and makes his way to the Baker family plantation. The game starts…

We’re  one day away now from one of the biggest Eastern RPG releases in recent memory, Final Fantasy XV. It’s been years since the Final Fantasy games have truly felt special. Now we’re at the home stretch of what’s been a very long 10-year development cycle, that stemmed from a branch of titles many fans did not enjoy. It’s a little bit nerve-wracking how far this title has come. I have fond memories of playing, and watching people play, the original games on the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2. The characters, storyline and villains always had me infatuated. Sephiroth’s theme, to this day, remains one of my favorite pieces of music from a game. I’m hopeful that Final Fantasy XV, the game that could make or break the series, exceeds and crushes all of my expectations. I want to lose sleep with the game and its world full of characters.…

“Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2” is a love letter to fans of the Dragon Ball universe. The game doesn’t change many things when compared to its predecessor, but it’s still a ton of fun and  easier to appreciate if you’re a long time fan of the anime or manga. “Xenoverse 2” is the second Dragon Ball game on next-gen consoles. The game is based around your very own Dragon Ball hero preventing history from being changed by the forces of darkness. Players can choose one of five races: Human, Namekian, Saiyan, Majin and the Frieza race. Each race has their own special attributes and transformations.  In the original game, not every race got a transformation, leading many players to choose Saiyan. In the sequel, every race now has one and they’re all fantastic. Aside from the more unique traits that come with each race, players can customize their character’s…

This morning, Nintendo revealed their next iconic iteration of console hardware, The Nintendo Switch. The console is a hybrid between a handheld and home console. The reveal trailer suggests that players can leave a hub for the device in their home and travel with what seems to be a detachable screen. The screen has two controllers that work simultaneously together and can be attached or detached to the screen. The handheld side looks similar to a Wii U gamepad. New gameplay was snuck in for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and what looks like a new Mario game in development. It’s important to note that Nintendo also showed off games like Skyrim Remastered and an NBA title. This could mean that Nintendo is trying to emphasize a push for more third party support. Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 were also featured in the trailer, meaning that a…

Luke Cage is yet another testament to Marvel’s ability of creating great drama with their lesser-known heroes. Luke Cage is another gritty look at the real world of the Marvel cinematic universe. Like Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage’s universe is much more grounded when compared to the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and the numerous other heroes who dominate the big screen. Although Cage already appeared in Jessica Jones’ series, you definitely don’t have to watch that show or be accustomed to the Marvel universe to appreciate the show or the characters. The thing that intrigued me most about Luke Cage was the subject matter, an African American male who is bullet proof. A lot of the themes and messages in the show revolve around real-world situations that are  incredibly relevant in our lives today. It’s an interesting take on the issues relating to the African American community…
