CANT is the solo side-project of Grizzly Bear’s bassist and producer, Chris Taylor. Taylor, who has also worked with groups such as Twin Shadow and The Morning Benders, crafts deep soundscapes that envelope you in a deep sea of musical prowess. The album strikes me as a cross between Thom Yorke’s (Radiohead) solo-project, The Eraser, and the work of post-dubstep producer James Blake. The opening track, Too Late Too Far, opens with a pulsating drumbeat peppered with handclaps, and soon fills out to include understated vocals and chopped synths. All in all, the album is a solid solo offering that won’t fail to impress.
