The Stony Brook Softball team roared its way past the Boston University Terriers and the Albany Great Danes to win their very first American East Conference Championship on Saturday, May 10. Shutting out Boston 3-0 in their first game of championship play, the Seawolves faced Albany, the three-year conference championship holder and host team.
The men’s baseball team is currently winding down their season. The Seawolves have come off a 16-5 win against University of Maryland: Baltimore County and look to continue their success for the remainder of the season.

It seems the Bowl games vs Playoff system debate in NCAA men’s Division One Football will continue on with no change in sight. On Wednesday, April 30, the Bowl Championship Series, the organization that controls college football’s national champion selection process, rejected a proposal by Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive to implement a four-team playoff starting in 2010.

The Roth Regatta is normally a time for cheers, cardboard, and getting wet in the pond. This year, however, the festivities were marked with sadness as Stony Brook lost a Seawolf. Stephen Roy Stakey collapsed while supporting his fellow Marching Bandmates as they rowed across the pond.

The hot topic in last weeks USG senate meeting held in the SAC was the passing of the budget for clubs and organization. Every year, a budget committee goes over the requests for funding by all the clubs and organizations on campus and decides how much to allocate to them for the upcoming year.
